2017-06-03

Over the past few years, the China Center for Special Economic Zones Research (CCSEZR) has drastically raised its bar on international academic cooperation as part of its overall goal of building itself into a top-level university and its international development strategy of “internationalizing its talent fostering scheme, scientific research cooperation, teaching staff construction and cultural exchange”.

Recently, the CCSEZR hosted two visiting scholars, one from Japan and the other from Singapore, to carry out academic exchanges and research at the CCSEZR.

The Singaporean scholar Dr. Hallam Stevens, who received his Ph.D. degree from Harvard University, is a professor at Nanyang Technological University and also a highly productive author. Meanwhile, he is a senior editor of several academic journals, a reviewer of the MIT Press, the University of Pittsburgh Press, and Purdue University Press, and a member of the National Science Foundation (USA) review panel. Prof. Stevens has been paying ongoing attention to the studies on Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and this upcoming stay at the CCSEZR will provide him a great opportunity to carry out research on technological innovations.

Asei Ito, a lecturer at the Institute of Social Science, the University of Tokyo, graduated from Keio University and has published a number of papers introducing his research findings in China’s industrial development. He has committed himself to the qualitative research on the emerging innovative industries in Shenzhen and has yielded fruitful results from the research on the history of the economic restructuring of Shenzhen SEZ (including the transformation of Japanese-funded enterprises there). Mr. Asei Ito is expected to conduct research on the innovative transformation taking place in Shenzhen and Pearl River Delta Region during his one-year stay at the CCSEZR.

By extensively conducting academic seminars, the two international scholars will bring in the most up-to-date information in the international academic world, advancing international academic exchanges in the CCSEZR and creating a broader platform for international cooperation in scientific research.
