On March 20, a seven-member group led by Prof. Tao Yitao visited Qianhai Authority for discussions on the preparation of the World Special Economic Zone Forum 2018. Prof. Tao Yitao is the vice secretary of CPC Committee of Shenzhen University (SZU), secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of SZU and director of the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR) – a key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education of China. Wang Jinxia, the deputy director general and a party member of the Qianhai Authority and Chen Peng, the secretary general of Qianhai Institute for Innovative Research (QIIR) met with the visiting group from the CCSEZR and held a symposium. Also present at the symposium were Prof. Gao Xingmin, the vice director of the CCSEZR and other representatives.

As the only research institute specializing in research on special economic zones (SEZs) among key research bases of humanities and social sciences under the Ministry of Education of China, the CCSEZR has long established an academic exchange and cooperation relationship with the Qianhai Authority. In April 2017, the CCSEZR-QIIR Cooperative Postdoctoral Research Base was founded officially to provide a cooperative platform for innovation in high-caliber talents nurturing, academic research, and conversion of scientific research achievements in Shenzhen. As 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy, the CCSEZR plans to hold the 19th China's Special Economic Zone Forum (World Special Economic Zone Development Forum) in Shenzhen to commemorate the historically significant moment. This visit to the Qianhai Authority aimed at discussing matters with respect to holding the forum.

Prof. Tao first introduced the long-standing history and academic status of the forum and presented its fruitful achievements over past years. Then she explained how and on which principle will the forum be hold, stressed its academic brand and influences and expressed her expectation about coordinating all resources to hold a successful forum to commemorate the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy. Deputy Director General Wang Jinxia first extended a warm welcome to the group, and expressed his wish to hold a meaningful, valuable, influential and glamorous forum jointly with the CCSEZR. He then offered many constructive opinions and suggestions on the forum theme, cooperation mode, cost sharing, invitation of guests and the like. In particular, he provided new thoughts and forward-looking views on how to nail down the forum theme and sub-forum topics.

After amiable discussions, both sides decided to set up a preparatory team for the World Special Economic Zone Forum 2018 to officially start forum preparations. Specific division of preparatory duties will be established after the symposium.
