On the afternoon of March 3, the first Academic Salon “From Liyuan to Tsinghua Garden: Academic Communication” for Ph.D. Students in Theoretical Economics in 2023 (61st in history) was staged smoothly by the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR), Shenzhen University (SZU) through Tencent Meeting. The keynote speaker of the salon was Zhu Shiyi, an active postdoc of Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance and assistant research fellow. She enrolled in Shenzhen University's master's degree program in Applied Economics in 2016 and furthered her study as a Ph.D. student in Theoretical Economics in CCSEZR through a combined master-doctor program application in 2018,and graduated in June 2022. Dr. Zhu Shiyi published seven academic papers in core journals, including Public Finance Research and Statistical Research, participated in several projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Humanities and Social Sciences Foundation of the Ministry of Education, and the Technology Department of the People’s Bank of China, and wrote and submitted over 10 policy research reports regarding financial inclusion, tax deduction, financial innovation, credit management and data sharing, to relevant ministries and commissions of the state. Deputy Director Zhang Ping hosted the salon, which was attended by about 40 graduate students in Theoretical Economics of CCSEZR.

Dr. Zhu first shared her experience in post-doctoral application, including the career plan prior to the application, the time point of submission and advisor contact and outbound requirements, followed by her research and academic papers related to financial inclusion and financial innovation published during her Ph.D. and current postdoctoral period.

Dr. Zhu discussed how to conduct academic research and the selection of the postdoctoral category with teachers and students present. This was our first attempt to invite outstanding graduates back to school for academic sharing, which helped diversify the salon form, and strengthen ties among alumni. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of SZU, this attempt also showcased the shining moments of Theoretical Economics students, and motivated the graduate students to keep forging ahead and pursuing their dreams!
