Project Proposal Meeting

Prof. Tao first explained “Progressive Reform with Chinese Characteristics and Chinese Path”, the main direction of the 14th Five-Year Plan of CCSEZR, the key research institute of humanities and social sciences. She emphasized that the research will be conducted with Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ), China’s most representative and successful SEZ, and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (the GBA), one of the world’s top four bay areas, at its research objectives; the institutional evolution of progressive reform from SEZs to the GBA at its context; the fulfilling of new missions of SEZ and the GBA in a new era at its goal; and the “1+4” at its overall framework. The “1” refers to a “Theory Construction” — Progressive reform with Chinese characteristics and Chinese Path — Institution innovation and practice of SEZ and the GBA”. Through the historical review and theoretical analysis of the practice mode and path of China's reform and opening-up, a theoretical framework of progressive reform with Chinese characteristics is structured to support the deepening of reform and the pioneering practice of SEZs and the GBA. The “4” refers to the “Realization of Four Functions”. Namely, to promote research on four major topics around the strategic positioning of Shenzhen SEZ and the GBA in the new era as "highlands of opening-up, innovation, factors and high-quality models”. With all efforts, a discipline of the Political Economy System with Chinese characteristics can be enriched to make great contributions to China’s Independent Knowledge System.
